Getting Around Majorca
With the ultimate Mallorca travel guide in hand, you’re ready to embrace the freedom of your adventure around Majorca. My top tip? Rent a car from Palma Airport to explore beyond the usual routes and uncover hidden gems. Although public transport is great, it simply cannot compare to the thrill of spontaneous discoveries on this beautiful island. After all, exploring at your own pace allows for unforgettable moments that you won’t find on any bus route.
Ultimate Mallorca Travel Guide: Hidden Gems & Must-see sights
Drach Caves: Subterranean Symphony
I initially had low expectations for the Drach Caves, but they were absolutely stunning. Their breathtaking beauty makes them a must-visit, which is precisely why they’ve earned a spot in the ultimate Mallorca travel guide. Prepare to be astonished by the stunning formations that await you within!
You can join self-guided tours at set times each day (check the website for times). The tour lasts around 40 minutes, allowing you to wander through mesmerizing tunnels adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. This path leads to Lake Martel’s magical 10-minute classical concert on boats. Note that no photos are allowed—immerse yourself in the complete darkness, embracing the sounds of cello, harpsichord, and violin.
Cala Pi: A Staircase to Coastal Bliss
Take a steep staircase down to Cala Pi, a picturesque bay nestled between cliffs. Named after surrounding pine trees, this narrow yet expansive beach stretches over 100 meters inland, creating a sheltered cove. Although the descent may be steep, the stunning sandy beach and sparkling turquoise waters make every step truly worthwhile.
Calo Des Moro & Cala s’Almonia: Hidden Coastal Retreats
Use the ultimate Mallorca travel guide to discover two small, popular beaches featuring crystal-blue waters, surrounded by cliffs and connected by a scenic pathway. Arrive early, as these intimate spots are highly sought after and tend to get busy. With no facilities or restaurants close by, immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Calo Des Moro and Cala s’Almonia.
Soller: Charming Old Town Vibrance
Explore Soller, a beautiful old town with narrow streets and a lively town square, Placa Constitució. Lined with numerous bars and cafes, the square is overseen by the stunning church of Sant Bartomeu. Don’t miss the vintage trams journeying from the town center to Port de Soller—a scenic 3km ride.
Every step through Majorca uncovers hidden gems and unforgettable sights, turning each moment into a unique, personal experience.
Where to Stay in Majorca
You’ll be spoiled for choice with an array of locations, from coastal retreats to tranquil villages. Here are some of my favorites included in the ultimate Mallorca travel guide
Playa de Palma: Convenient Resort
Located less than a 10-minute drive from Palma Airport and conveniently close to the capital city of Palma, this area boasts a 6km stretch filled with plenty of hotels, bars, and restaurants. If your flight arrives late at night, this is undoubtedly an excellent place to start your holiday.
Deia: Coastal Village Serenity
One look at this village and you will see why its in the Ultimate Mallorca travel guide. Enjoy sea and mountain views in this laid-back northwest coastal village, offering a relaxed atmosphere.
Puerto Pollensa: Family-Friendly Port
Embrace a family-friendly atmosphere with picturesque beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a promenade adorned with cafes and restaurants.
Ses Salines: Quaint Tranquility
This picturesque, quaint town is away from all the hustle and bustle. While the village is remote, it still has restaurants, cafes, bakeries, supermarkets, and pharmacies in the centre, and it is close to several stunning beaches.
Accommodation
Hotel Hoposa Bahia: Seaside Elegance
The owners transformed this charming 19th-century summer house into a lovely hotel situated on the beautiful promenade (Pine Walk), which is conveniently located less than 100 yards from the stunning sandy beach. Here, you can leisurely watch the world go by while enjoying a delicious buffet breakfast or dinner at the beachfront restaurant
Hotel Hoposa Costa D’Or: Adult Retreat
This adults-only hotel, elevated and surrounded by mountains, overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Nestled in a rural setting, it lies approximately 2 km from Deia.
Where to Eat
As Mallorca is a large island (3640 km2), along with all its hidden gems and must see sights there are many options for eating and drinking.
Cassai Grand Café: Ses Salines Gem
Nestled along the main road in Ses Salines, this charming restaurant invites you into its rustic courtyard, perfect for alfresco dining. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a cozy bar right at the entrance. I can’t recommend the paella enough—it was absolutely fantastic! If possible, I highly recommend planning for an evening visit, as this will allow you to enjoy live music by local musicians, which will undoubtedly add even more magic to the experience.
Ca’s Patro March: Clifftop Dining
This stunning restaurant, perched above the cliffs overlooking Cala Deia’s turquoise waters, is a must-visit. I highly recommend making a reservation, as its location, rustic charm, and delicious food attract many visitors. Not only does the restaurant boast a charming atmosphere, but it also featured in some scenes from the mini-series ‘The Night Manager,’ which is based on John Le Carré’s novel. Additionally, you can easily reach it with a short walk from the car park at Cala Deia; alternatively, you could arrive by boat and climb the steps to the restaurant.
